American singer Donna Summer has died at the age of 63.

Summer, who won five Grammy Awards and had disco hits including I Feel Love, Love To Love You Baby and Love’s Unkind, had been suffering from cancer.

A statement from Summer’s family said: “Early this morning, we lost Donna Summer Sudano, a woman of many gifts, the greatest being her faith.

Her first solo record came out in 1971 but Love To Love You Baby was her first hit to gain widespread recognition in the UK – it became her first of 29 singles to break the top 40.
